Getting a good SAT score In 2023 - Syllabus and Tips

Have you applied for the SAT yet? If not, consider applying to increase your chances of gaining admission into your dream university with a possible 100% scholarship (only applicable to need-blind universities). Despite the math component, the SAT is worth a shot for those applying abroad. It's also a good option for those seeking scholarships on tuition or university fees, whether you're from the USA or another country. The key to achieving a high SAT score is constant self-studying and giving yourself challenges during the preparation.

I for my part applied for the SAT and I am in my third year at MIT, and that's right I got in with a 100% scholarship, I started preparing at the beginning of the 11th class semester and solved practice papers related to it daily which really helped and I would advise any of you to do the same.

NEED-BLIND University Options

The need-blind option can really help you with financial aid and if your SAT score is appreciable then you can even be eligible for Harvard and MIT need-blind options.

These are the top need-blind universities you can apply for -
  • Barnard College
  • Boston College
  • California Institute of Technology
  • Curtis Institute of Music
  • Harvey Mudd College
  • Johns Hopkins University
  • Massachusetts Institute of Technology
  • Middlebury College
  • Minerva Schools at KGI
  • Soka University of America
  • Stanford University
  • Swarthmore College
  • University of Chicago
  • University of Michigan
  • University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Let's move on to the sections of the SAT exam and examination fees-

The digital SAT is a 2-hour and 14-minute long test scored on a scale of 400-1600. The SAT consists of two sections-
Mathematics
Reading and Writing

Both sections contain two modules each. Your performance on the first module of the section will determine the difficulty level of the questions–the greater the difficulty level of the question, the higher the marks it carries, and vice versa.

The Mathematics + the Reading and Writing sections are scored out of 800 individually, making the total SAT exam score 1600.

The Maths syllabus is given here (credits to the site for syllabus):

The Topics of Maths are just high school maths topics that the students need to be prepared for.

Tips and Sources

There are many sample papers that you can try practicing for the SAT and you can refer to any English practice paper book that includes broad topics for the preparation of SAT. Even your maths high school books may come in handy for your preparation.

There are a variety of YouTube channels too which provide an excellent guide to SAT and which I followed back when I was preparing for SAT.

One of them that I highly recommend is The Admission Hackers YouTube channel which gives a detailed guide and leads you to a whopping SAT score of 1500+
