Starting Your Ethical Hacking Journey!

Ethical Hacking is one great skill, anyone would like to learn. There's just the problem that many people don't find a correct path to start learning it. But in this post, I am going to tell you a straight pathway for your Ethical Hacking Journey.

Ethical Hacking or as we all know white hat hacking is done to either pursue a career in cybersecurity or just take it forward as a skill. It's a skill you should definitely learn even though you don't seek a cybersecurity career as it can raise awareness in you and you will get to know about every aspect of hacking and the ways to prevent getting hacked by applying certain security measures.

Where to Start?

There are many ways by which you can learn the basics of ethical hacking like watching a YouTube playlist, buying a paid course, or even reading articles, all these are just simple and brief methods to learn hacking and kickstart your journey. But do these methods help with real-life practice, Absolutely not. Many people often don't find a good way that they can learn about hacking and apply them legally and safely. Well, there are many services that provide our curious minds with a lot of Ethical Hacking content and the best ones I recommend are CTFs and Hacking Labs. 

You won't even need a paid course if you sign up for a Hacking Lab like TryHackMe or Hack The Box and there will be lots of stuff you can learn about ethical hacking. 

Learning Using TryHackMe

I have been an active hacker for many years and with my experience I would definitely recommend TryHackMe to start your hacking career. I wish I had known about this platform earlier, it provides really great challenges you can take on. Let me introduce you to it's sign-up process-

After you do sign-up you have to choose a path for your Ethical hacking journey and you will be provided with three paths which you can choose. Don't stress it, just take the beginner-friendly one and get going! 

Once you choose your path, you can just go ahead and pick courses that you like. It will first provide you with the basic plan and guide you will need to start your ethical hacking Journey.

Rooms are virtual environments that contain tasks and challenges related to a specific topic. Start with the beginner-friendly rooms to build your foundation. As you progress, you can tackle more advanced challenges. It's completely up to you which room to choose first, depending on your experience as an Ethical Hacker.

Rooms provide a basic list of tasks that you have to complete in a particular time limit. It will provide a target to you and you can spawn your attacker machine just in case you don't have any virtual machine of a pen testing operating system or you don't have tools. Just pick up the room which seems the most required to you according to your own preferences.

Making Career Decision

I know many of the people who are learning using TryHackMe and who are going to learn using TryHackMe with the help of this post are probably doing it as a hobby or probably they want ethical hacking as a skill to pursue any other IT career. But people who are looking for a job opportunity in the cybersecurity field can also take the TryHackMe CompTIA+ or Security+ test if they want to get a basic certificate for a particular exam in hacking.
